It’s Like Vegas!

It is like Vegas, I guess, you always take a huge gamble when you hire a coach! You try to find one that you mesh with or they have a track record. So, I had purchased several things from his dad, and his son was running his empire. I liked him from what I was seeing produced by him and his team. During the pandemic, he opened his personal coaching, one-on-one. I was like, okay, this is something that I need.

I am such a deep thinker that I need to get out of my own way and have someone look into what I needed to do that was missing. So, I bit the bullet, met with him. At the time, I had worked my way to Director in my MLM and was making okay money, but I was not to the 10K that I needed to be at and social media marketing was a mental struggle for me.

Let me clarify, I had a hard time going to groups to try to pretend to friend people so that I could pitch them on my product line. I found it very awkward and deceptive. I knew that I didn’t want to “chat it up” with these people or pretend to care. That really was just not me!

After meeting with him, he said, we can get you there, you are not far. Give me 90 days and $3,000! He had a program called Limitless. I would be in the Facebook Group and he did coaching once a week and we would form a game plan….and go!

So, I got a logo and built a tribe, all organically. I set up everything as he said. I hired a VA. I kept saying, nothing is changing, what do I do now. He told me to keep going, so I did. After another $1,000 in on the things he suggested that would “help me,” I didn’t even have 1 penny of ROI. I contacted his office, hey, what am I missing here? I could go to the group coaching live and ask questions. Okay, that became confusing because he laid out a game plan, the focus was selling the product line. But then when I would go to coaching, he would say recruit.

The problem was that him was coaching people who wanted to be coaches. I was not really wanting to open that door again. I didn’t want to be a coach. I was in MLM.

It’s kind of like a farmer saying he can run a grocery store. Both deal in plants and veggies and such. But they are so far from one another, that a project like that is destined to fail.

Needless to say, he mentioned a marketing topic that he would be teaching the next week. It was then that he scheduled my accountability coaching call…. I think that is what he called it. He literally waited until a week before the 90 days were over. Either way, he determined that we had tested this process and it had failed. So, we had a new test to run in the next 90 days and I would need to pay for more coaching. I was like, huh?

And, by the way, I got to keep NONE of the materials I had access to while he was coaching me either!

I was floored and there was no way I wanted anything to do with him or his programs ever again!

Note please here…. ALWAYS give your customers access to what they paid for, even when they are not going to be in your program. Create a goodbye packet if you must, so they can’t get into your membership areas, if you can’t lock them down. But NEVER charge someone and leave them without the tools you gave them for that money!

This is why you clearly MUST have your dream customer in mind. If you are a coach, then pick who you want to coach. Keep this customer in a narrow view. If you specialize in coaching MLM people, do NOT try to coach coaches! If you coach MLM people, you can diversify, but do NOT use another customer segment as an experiment until you KNOW you can help them.

A good example of this is the new challenge. It is $100 to do the challenge. The challenge is ran by an entire team that has a proven record of creating millions for many industries. I am opening up my inner circle to help others with what I have learned and how to help them If you have a product, pick who is the perfect person to use that product. If you are someone who has no product and clings to every idea people talk to you about…. STOP.

You can get crazy with the possibilities of things when you know what the right tools are to market anything. It can create a whole other issue of what I call shiny penny syndrome! You must always be a person of integrity too. If you say you will do something, do it. If you provide a service, then give it.

I will say this, you will never find a system that is 100%! There will be people that you give all your tools and weapons, and they do nothing with them. It is part of working with people. But, when you are giving tools and systems to someone, you should have an accountability to that too. If the person is following your systems, you will know that and can see it. If they are and they are not getting results, then you are failing them, or your product is and you need to do the right thing. It is why most products have a money back guarantee. I know that the product I sold had a 30-day money back guarantee. If you did not have results in 30 days — send it back.

If you are coaching or providing a service, you should do the same thing! If a person is not getting the results, make the decision to let them go from your program or figure out a new way to service them! This is a growing period for you.

I guess you can say that $3,000 pushed me to NEVER want to be like THAT! I always want to provide a true service to everyone that I am serving. I mean, it is confusing if you SERVE someone and they get nothing from your SERVICE and you are OKAY with that, right?!

Here is my thought and little nugget for the day…although I feel like this story is many nuggets. Obviously, be careful about who you pay. From the outside, someone can look like they have a great program, but once you get in, you see it is a hot mess. When you clear the dust and get to some tools they have, you find some nuggets. But then they take them away!

Create a member’s area where your clients can always access what tools they got when they were in your program. If they leave, lock them out of NEW materials you put out. This is fair. But don’t take away the area that they paid for. That is called integrity!

Okay, I digress, in a way here. It is my openness is so that you will research out your options. There are a ton out there that will cost you WAY UNDER $3,000!

We have a challenge going right now that literally cost $100! I took this challenge. It is actually guaranteed, so I had nothing to lose. Looking back, I wish I would have found this year and years ago! I have wasted time and money….a LOT of both! I have actually learned more in 30 days than I learned with my 2 college degrees and numerous continuous education courses!

In truth, when I was training people years ago, there were many things I was teaching that were backwards. Of course, when you know what you know and don’t know what you don’t know…. there you are! I laugh as I write that! I mean, that is so clear, but was and is so fuzzy when you don’t know!

I highly recommend if you own a business, need leads or sales in your profession, you are looking for a side hustle or even a side hustle that will get you away from your full time gig, that you should invest the $100 for yourself! I know people who are taking this challenge that are seeing an overall change in their lives because of the lessons they learn.

I know that many people who are self-starters or have the MLM bug are addicted to the “shiny penny” syndrome. It is a serious addiction. I also think it deters success and we will talk more on this tomorrow!

Oh, I forgot, you wanted to know if or how my business increased with my $3,000 investment? I made NOTHING. My business didn’t grow at all and I not only wasted the $3,000, but all that time, crawling down a hole…only to have to get back out.

I am determined to save others from this rabbit hole now, more than ever! I am also determined to put systems in place (and modify my current ones) and change up my own life a little.

Who’s with me?

Three grand, 90 days to 10K, Limitless….NOT! Lessons learned!

The 🤫“dirty secret” I promised and the golden nugget…This story about what I went through actually shows you why it is so important to have your dream customer firmly identified. I want to know where they hang out on the internet! Do they like blogs, podcasts, Facebook, IG? If they like all these, what channels are they tuned into? Make a list!

Take time today to determine what things you spend the MOST time on each day. Reflect back to last week so that you can start to get ideas on where you want to focus first for your organization.

For now, I have to bounce…

Be your best and don’t copy your upline!

🥂Cheers,

Stacey
